Stop Scam Attempts in Their Tracks

The first step in protecting yourself is to be educated about this activity. Cornerstone Community Financial is in your corner with these tips to remember and follow to protect your information and your accounts.

TIP #1 - Always be alert to scare tactics.
  • If a call or text message insists on immediate action, such as transferring money, clicking a link, or downloading an app, terminate the call at once.

  • Be suspicious of someone telling you not to check your account online.
TIP #2 - Never share sensitive personal information over the phone.
  • If you are unsure of or unable to verify a caller's legitimacy, hang up and call the organization directly using a number that you trust. Do not use callback or redial features as the number may be spoofed.

  • Never trust caller ID, even with family members. Cybercriminals can easily fool caller identification systems. This type of activity is on the rise.
TIP #3 - Report suspicious activity ASAP.
  • Immediately report suspicious calls to your organization's security department.

  • This allows your organization to review your account for suspicious activity and to take preemptive measures to protect your account.
